Dave Cover: This is Christian Meditation For A Bigger Life. I'm Dave Cover. I want to help you with Christian meditation and experience God's presence through biblically- guided imagination where you can draw near to God and get the stress and anxiety out of your mind, out of your heart, and out of your body so you can live a bigger life. If your podcast app is set to skip silent sections, disable that for this podcast. In this Christian meditation, we start with a body meditation to recalibrate our body with our mind's awareness. Of course, our body is always responding to our mind and feeling our mind's beliefs in the moment. Our tension and anxieties, insecurities, anger, grievances, we're just usually not aware of it, but our body always is. So body meditation reintegrates our mind's focused awareness back with our body so that we can intentionally recalibrate our mind and our awareness and our beliefs and our body with the reality of God's presence and intimate involvement in our lives. So to begin, lie flat on your back if possible, or otherwise sit comfortably in a chair. Try to sit in a way where your mind can easily calibrate with your body. Uncross your legs and try to keep your body symmetrical. Close your eyes if you can. To begin, take in deep breath through your nose into your belly and let your belly rise with each inbreath, breathing in, feeling calm and relaxed, breathing out and letting go of any areas of tension as you feel your body dropping a little bit deeper, releasing, muscle softening, letting go. You don't have to hold yourself up right now. You can completely let go. Begin to mindfully inhabit your body fully to intentionally focus your attention in the inner condition of your body, to feel your body, your entire body from within. Body awareness helps you embrace your body, to recalibrate your body with the reality of God's life- giving presence and love. To do that, you have to become intentionally aware of your body. Allow your outbreath to become slightly longer than your inbreath. And with each breath out, use your imagination to feel God's presence inside you, giving life to every cell in your body. The Apostle Paul said to the pagan philosophers in Acts 17: 28, in him we live and move and have our being. What he's saying is that every human life is empowered. Every cell and every body is empowered by God's spirit always, doesn't matter if you're a believer or not. He is the giver of all life. In him, we live and move and have our being. But Paul was quoting a pagan philosopher, but he quoted it as true. In him, we live and move and have our being. And then writing specifically to followers of Jesus, he says in 1st Corinthians 6: 19, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, which means that Christ has made your body holy. Your body is a temple, a holy temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you. The Apostle Paul says in Galatians 2: 20, Christ lives in me and the life I now live in the body. The way that resurrected Jesus inhabits your body is by the Holy Spirit. Use your imagination to feel this incredible biblical truth throughout your entire body right now. In him, you live and move and have your being. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you. Christ lives in you, the life you now live in the body. Imagine this, feel this in your body, your entire body. With each breath you take, your body is becoming a little bit more relaxed. Your mind is becoming a little bit more quieted. With your imagination on God's presence with and in your body, you're feeling a kind of transcendent sense of quiet. You're feeling a sense of wonder at the God who created the universe residing inside your body, giving life to your body, every cell in your body being given life by the spirit of God right now. And because Christ is in you, you are one with God right now in this present moment. Use your imagination to feel that oneness with God in your body right now. As part of recalibrating our mind with our body, it always helps to focus our mind's awareness on specific parts of our body. So let's do that now. Bring your mind's awareness to your feet. Feel your feet, both your feet, the tops of your feet, the bottoms, the heels, your 10 toes. Become aware of your feet and relaxing your feet, your feet feeling heavy, the weight of your feet. Now move your mind's awareness to your ankles and just letting go, feeling your ankles release tension, and just lying there doing nothing, not having to carry you anywhere, completely letting go and relaxed. Now move your mind's awareness up to your calves and just feeling the muscles in your calves completely release. Just lying there doing nothing, becoming limp, heavy. Now feel your knees. Become aware of just your knees, focusing your mind on your knees relaxing. Now moving your attention to your thighs. Your thighs are heavy. The large muscles in your thighs, just let them go limp. Release, relax. Let go of all clenched muscles in your thighs. Now just feel both of your legs lying there. You don't have to go anywhere. You don't have to stand up, you can just relax. They don't have to do anything except release all tension. Release all clenched muscles, release all activity and just lie there. Feel both of your legs in parallel with one another. Now move your attention to your hips and just release your hips. Let go. The first time someone said to me release your hips, it was the first time I realized how much tension I was holding in my hips, that I could just let them go and let them drop, and I was never aware of that before. Let your hips drop and let go. Release all tension. You don't have to hold yourself up. Now feel your hips and your legs and your feet all at once completely relaxed. You don't have to hold yourself up. Releasing all clenched muscles, lying there heavy. And with each outbreath, soften your muscles a little bit more. Now bring your awareness to your pelvic area, your buttocks, and just letting go, release, relax. Let your pelvic area just rest and lie there. Now your abdomen. With each inbreath, your abdomen should rise. And then as you exhale, let it relax, release, soften. Let go tension, stress, angst. Moving your mind's awareness to your chest, your diaphragm. The whole front of your torso, just let it lie there. Feeling the weight. Now moving your attention to your back, all the muscles in your back. And now move your attention to your shoulders. Move your attention now to your shoulders and let your shoulders drop, the tops of your shoulders, your shoulder blades. You don't have to hold yourself up. Let your shoulders completely drop. Relax, soften, release. Now moving your awareness down your arms and just becoming more aware of your arms, feeling your arms, both your arms relaxing, letting go, releasing tension, just lying there. You don't have to use your arms right now. They can just lie there limp. Focus on your arms lying there limp. Feel that. Focus on feeling that. Now your hands, your fingers, your thumbs, just feeling your hands lying there doing nothing relaxing. You don't have to hold anything. You don't have to do anything. And now focus your mind on your entire arms and shoulders and your torso all at once, relaxed, lying there. You don't have to go anywhere. You don't have to do anything. You can lie there limp. Focus on feeling your torso and your arms and your shoulders lying there limp. Feel the weight, feel your muscles soften. Now move your awareness to your neck, your throat, releasing the muscles in your neck. Think of your tongue. Your tongue is one big muscle and it goes all the way back deep into your throat. Let your tongue just lie there, release, doing nothing, completely heavy, all the way back down deep into your throat. And when you feel that, you feel your entire throat and your jaw releasing. Feel your jaw release, your cheeks. Let your cheeks drop, your jaw drop. Like when you see someone sleeping on a plane, their face is just dropped, feel that now in your face, completely dropped. Your eyes. You can always tell when someone is tense by looking at their eyes. Something about our eyes holds a lot of tension. Let the muscles behind your eyes completely let go, relax, release. The muscles around your eyes, the muscles in your eyes, just let them go, completely relax. Your forehead. Let your forehead release. Now moving your awareness to the top of your head, your scalp. Let your scalp go. Feel your muscles release. Feel your muscles just lying there. You don't have to present a face to the world. You can let your entire head release, relax, the back of your head, the sides of your head. If you really think about it, it's amazing how much we keep the muscles in our head tense. Become aware of that and try to release that tension all around your head, every muscle in your head. Now continue focusing on your breathing, breathing into your belly, breathing out relaxation into your entire body and bring your mind's awareness back to your entire body now, feeling your feet, your hands, your head at the same time. Try to focus on feeling them at the same time, relaxing, lying there, released. And now focus on feeling your arms and your legs at the same time. Feel them going the same direction and parallel with one another. They don't have to go anywhere, do anything, just lying there completely limp. Now keeping part of your mind's attention always on your body, let's also add scripture meditation to our meditation. Let me read Jesus' words in Matthew 11: 25. It says, at that time, Jesus said," I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to little children." One of the principles all throughout the Bible is this, God hides himself from the proud and reveals himself to the humble. He's wired things in such a way where the gospel looks like foolish ignorance to those who pride themselves on their educated intelligence. But what I'm interested in here for our meditation is who Jesus declares the Father to be, Lord of heaven and earth. Jesus is God who became human and he's praying to God as a human. I want to have the same view of God that Jesus had, not just that he is my Father but that he is Lord of heaven and earth. That was the Bible's way of saying Lord of everything, everything in the universe, spiritually and materially, the entire universe. Someone is in charge of the chaos. Your Father is in charge of all the chaos. He has an eternal plan that is unfolding. He has an eternal purpose that he is seeing through. He will cause all things to work together for good for his children, according to Romans 8: 28. Jesus says," Not even a sparrow will fall to the ground, apart from the will of your Father in heaven." And then Jesus went on to say that God, your Father, has numbered the very hairs of your head. Psalm 139: 16 says that he has ordained the very number of your days before one of them even came to be. The God Jesus taught and the Bible teaches is a God who is in complete control of everything. This is why Jesus could competently and calmly take a nap in the boat in the middle of a storm. And then when the disciples woke him up, he simply spoke and calmed the storm and the waves. Remember that anxiety and fear and insecurity and anger block us from seeing God's presence and his love for us in the moment. And they also block us from singing God in control in every moment. Christian meditation reminds us to believe what we already believe is true, to believe in the God that Jesus revealed to us and to have the same view of the Bible that Jesus had. Evil might be mighty in our world, but it's not all mighty. For now, chaos might be mighty, but it's not almighty. Yahweh, the Hebrew word for God in the Old Testament, the Hebrew verb that meant he is. Yahweh, he is, the I am, is the almighty and he has a purpose eternally for what is happening and he is allowing the chaos because he's in control and he's bringing about a greater good, even if we can't understand that right now. And that's true for every evil and every chaos in your life right now. One reason we deal with anxiety or anger or frustration or insecurity, self protection, is because we're forgetting this, that our Father is Lord of heaven and earth. Focus your meditation right now on becoming more aware that your Father is Lord of heaven and earth, and feel that awareness through your imagination into your body. Become more aware of this reality and feel it into your body. Your Father is Lord of heaven and earth, he is the almighty, he's in control of everything, and he has an eternal good, a purpose for you, even in the evil and the chaos. This is Jesus' promise. This is the view of God that Jesus had. And I want to have the same view of God that Jesus had, and I think you do too. So feel that in your body right now. Using your imagination, imagine God being Lord of heaven and earth, Lord of everything. Not even a sparrow falls to the ground, apart from his will. And he has numbered the very hairs of your head. He has ordained for you the number of your days before one of them came to be, and he causes all things to work together for good for his children. Where there is anxiety, tension, insecurity, self protection, clenched muscles, anger, frustration, replace it with trust and a calm confidence in this truth, your Father is Lord of heaven and earth, Lord of everything, spiritually, physically, everything in the universe and everything in your life. Use your imagination to see this reality right now in this moment. Whatever it is you don't think is under his control, that you've been anxious about, angry about, worried about, see it now as completely under his control and feel that truth into your body, your entire body. Whatever and wherever it is that you have let anxiety and insecurity and anger take control, or just be a slow burn in the back burner in your mind, in your heart, in your emotions, see it now as completely under God's control and find rest in that truth. Feel your body become more calm and quiet and at rest as you become more and more mindfully aware of this reality using your imagination. Imagine breathing in the calm and peace and security and love of God's infinite and intimate presence, and breathing out tension and anxiety and stress and insecurity and anger from your body. Imagine this, picture this, with each breath. Imagine breathing in the rest and calm and confidence and joy of God's complete Lordship over all the chaos and breathing out tension and fear and anger and worry from your body. Imagine this in your entire body, feel it from head to toe, from head to feet. Feel it in your hands and arms, your feet and your legs, your hips, your gut, your shoulders, your neck, your face. Become intently aware and mindfully focused on feeling your entire body all at once resting in this truth, feeling this truth in your entire body all at once. Feel God's presence and God's love and his Lordship and peace and life and joy flowing throughout your entire body right now. This is imagination, but it's biblically- guided imagination. So much of the Bible is appealing to your imagination. So run with it and feel God's presence and love and Lordship right now bringing calm and peace and rest to your body. Heavenly Father, I thank you that you are Lord of heaven and earth. You are Lord of everything. There is nothing anywhere that you are not completely in control, Lord, over. You are Lord of heaven and earth and you are in charge of all the chaos, you're in charge of all the evil. Somehow you have a plan. You have a reason why you let it run. And it's for an eternal good somehow that I can't understand, but I can trust the God that created this universe is going to have reasons I'm not going to understand, but I can trust you. Just like Jesus sleeping in the boat in a storm, you are lured over the chaos. Evil is mighty, but you are almighty. Chaos is mighty, but you're the almighty. And so I rest in you. I present my body to you, I present my life to you and everything in my life to you I trust. You've numbered the very hairs of my head and the cells in my body. And I trust in your Lordship, your presence with me always, your love for me in every moment, in this moment and in every moment. I rest in you, I rest in your Lordship and I pray in Jesus name, amen. Thanks for listening to Christian Meditation for a Bigger Life. Body Meditation

In this Christian meditation we start with a body meditation to recalibrate our body with our mind’s awareness. Of course our body is always responding to our mind and feeling our mind’s beliefs in the moment. Our tension and anxieties, insecurities, anger and grievances. We’re just usually not aware of it. But our body always is.

Body meditation reintegrates our mind’s focused awareness back with our body so that we can intentionally recalibrate our mind and our awareness and our beliefs and our body with the reality of God‘s presence and intimate involvement in our lives.

To begin, lie flat on your back if possible or otherwise sit comfortably in a chair. Try to sit in a way where your mind can easily calibrate with your body. Uncross your legs. Try to keep your body symmetrical. Close your eyes if you can.

And begin to take deep breaths through your nose into your belly.

Breathing in. Feeling calm and relaxed. Breathing out. Letting go of any areas of tension as you feel your body dropping a little deeper now. Releasing. Muscles softening.

Begin to mindfully inhabit your body fully. To intentionally focus  your attention on the inner condition of your body. To feel your entire body from within. Body awareness helps you embrace your body — recalibrate your body — with the reality of God’s life-giving presence and love.

And with each breath out use your imagination to feel God‘s presence inside you and outside you. Giving life to every cell in your body. Acts 17:28 says “In him we live and move and have our being.” 1 Corinthians 6:19 says, “…Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you…” which means that Christ has made your body holy.

The apostle Paul says in Galatians 2:20, “Christ lives in me and the life I now live in the body…” The way the resurrected Jesus inhabits our body is by the Holy Spirit. Use your imagination to feel this biblical truth throughout your entire body.

Bible Meditation

Matthew 11:25 (NIV)

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. …

One of the principles all throughout the Bible is this — God hides himself from the proud and reveals himself to the humble. He’s wired things in such a way where the gospel looks like foolish ignorance to those who pride themselves on their educated intelligence.

But what I am interested in here for our meditation his who Jesus declares the Father to be — “Lord of heaven and earth.“ Jesus is God who became human and he’s praying to God as a human. I want to have the same view of God that Jesus had. Not just that he is my Father.

He is Lord of heaven and earth. Someone is in charge of the chaos. Your Father is in charge of all the chaos. He has an eternal plan and purpose. “He will cause all things to work together for good for his children” (Rom 8:28-30). “Not even a sparrow will fall to the ground apart from the will of your father in heaven.” “And you’re much more valuable to God than sparrows.“ “He has numbered the very hairs of your head” (Matt 10:29-31). He has “ordained the number of my days before one of them even came to be” (Ps 139:16).

The God Jesus taught us and the Bible teaches us is a God who is in complete control of everything. This is why Jesus could confidently and calmly take a nap in a boat in the middle of a storm. And then when the disciples woke him up he simply spoke and calmed the storm and the waves.

Remember that anxiety and fear and insecurity and anger block us from seeing God’s presence and his love for us in the moment. And they also block us from seeing God in control of every moment.

Christian meditation reminds us to believe what we already believe is true. To believe in the God that Jesus revealed to us. And I want to have the same view of the the Bible that Jesus had.

Evil might be mighty in our world, but it’s not Almighty. Chaos might be mighty right now, but it’s not Almighty. Yahweh — HE IS — is the Almighty. And that’s true for every evil and every chaos in your life right now.

As you focus your meditation on becoming more aware of your body, also become more aware of this reality and feel it into your body.

Where there is anxiety, tension, insecurity, self protection, clenched muscles – replace it with trust and a calm confidence in this truth. Your father is Lord of heaven and earth. Use your imagination to see this reality right now. Whatever it is you don’t think is under his control, see it now as completely under his control.

Use your imagination to become mindfully aware of this reality right now. God’s presence with you — Christ in you by the Holy Spirit. Whatever and wherever it is you you have let anxiety and insecurity and anger take control, see it now as completely under God’s control. And find rest in that truth. Feel your body become more calm and quiet and at rest as you become more and more mindfully aware of this reality using your imagination.
