Dave Cover: This is Christian Meditation for A Bigger Life. I'm Dave Cover. I want to help you with Christian meditation and experience God's presence through biblically- guided imagination, where you can draw near to God and get the stress and anxiety out of your mind, out of your heart, and out of your body. So you can live a bigger life. If your podcast app is set to skip silent sections, disable that now. To begin, lie flat on your back, if you can. But if you can't, just go ahead and sit comfortably in a chair and uncross your legs, and close your eyes. And when you're ready, begin by taking in deep breaths into your belly, through your nose, into your belly. Intentionally making your belly rise with each breath intake. And then with each exhale, focus on letting all your muscles and your body soften. And let go of tension, tightening. Let go of clenched muscles all throughout your body. Let your exhale be a little longer than your intake, and use those moments of exhaling to focus on relaxing your body a little bit more each time. Softening the muscles in your head, your shoulders. Softening the muscles in your arms. Letting your arms lay there limp, heavy, giving into gravity. Letting your face drop, your cheeks released of all efforts to hold up your face, your jaw, your shoulders. Now, your abdomen, your belly. Softening the muscles, releasing tension. Letting go of clenched muscles. Releasing your back. Feeling heavy in your whole torso, your arms, your head. Now, your torso feeling very heavy, giving into gravity. And now, releasing your hips, your pelvic area, moving down your legs, your thighs. Your legs are very heavy, full of the heaviest muscles in your body. Let your legs give into gravity and become very heavy. Letting go, releasing your muscles, your shins, your calves, your ankles, your feet and toes. Focusing on your whole body and focus on that feeling of relaxing your whole body. Bring your mind's awareness to feeling your entire body, feeling heavier all at once. Feeling your whole body just releasing and letting go of holding yourself up. This feeling, putting your mind's focus on this feeling is a sensation that you actually can feel. Like when your body feels cold, you feel that sensation inside your body. This is like that, although it's a quieter sensation. You feel cold in your body without thinking about it, but you have to focus more on feeling this sensation of relaxing your body, and feeling your body relax. But it's a sensation that you can feel when you focus on it. And the more you focus on it, the more it becomes like a feedback loop. Focusing on feeling your body relaxed causes your body to feel more relaxed, and your brain, your mind, your body begin to integrate. And you're feeling almost like you're floating. Focus on feeling this sensation in your entire body all at once, feeling your body feeling relaxed more and more. Imagine your mind going within your body and feeling your body from within. Focus your mind on feeling your entire body. You are reintegrating your body with your mind, and recalibrating your mind and your body with the reality of God's presence and God's love. You are in a solitary place. If not physically, then let it be so at least mentally; alone in God's presence right now. Christian meditation is a time to block out the busyness and the hurry and all the distractions, and focus on the reality of God's presence and God's joy. And the ultimate pleasure of his glory right now in this moment. You're not imagining something unreal. You're imagining something very real, but unseen to you, just like you would, if you were imagining your body comprised of atoms, which it is, but unseen to you at least. But they are very real. You're not trying to picture God, but you're imagining his presence with you and within you. As we imagined in our last episode from John 7: 38, Jesus likened the Spirit of God as a river of water flowing within you, flowing throughout your entire body. Imagine this. Right now, the Spirit of God is flowing like a river of water within your whole body. Feel this. Imagine this. Feel the sensation, the Spirit of God, as a river of water flowing within you, bringing his life all throughout your body. Bringing his love, his glory, his joy. And in John four, Jesus likened the Spirit of God in you as a spring of water welling up within you. This is all imagination. It's an imagination the Bible gives you to use in meditation, to allow your biblically- guided imagination to help you experience the real presence of God within your body, within your whole life, your entire soul. As the New Testament says in 1st Corinthians 6: 19," Your body is a temple of God's Holy Spirit, who is in you right now, in your body." Your body is a temple, a physical temple of the presence of God's Holy Spirit in you. So use your imagination to feel his presence in and flowing through your entire body right now. This is an imagination Jesus gives you. The Spirit of God flowing throughout your entire body, like a river of water flowing within you. Like a spring of water welling up within you, giving life, bringing God's presence, God's love flowing through your entire body. Imagine this and feel it into your body right now in this moment. In Psalm 16: 11, David prays to God. He says," In your presence, there is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore. In your presence, there is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Imagine the fullness of joy, being in the presence of God's glory and God's beauty, and God's perfect love for you. Seeing the one who created this entire universe one day with your own eyes, your own resurrected eyes in a resurrected body. But even now, the Spirit of God is flowing within you, within your body. Imagine the reality and feel it now into your body, God's glory, God's beauty, God's perfect love for you. In your presence, there is fullness of joy. Feel that reality right now in your entire body. The Bible's bigger story is that joy is the ultimate experience when heaven returns to earth, when Jesus comes back. We will have resurrected bodies of glory and power, and true spirituality and immortality. And we will live in the amazing presence of God forever. So Jesus said, all of his teaching has joy. In John 15:11, he says," These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you. And that your joy may be full. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you. And that your joy may be full." It's the whole point of Jesus' teaching, he says. That's why in John 17, the night Jesus was arrested, when he is praying for his disciples and he is summing up the purpose of his entire life on earth, he says in John 17: 13," So that they may have the full measure of my joy within them." That was why he came. That's why he's going to the cross and going to rise from the dead," So that they may have the full measure of my joy within them." In the final words of the Epistle of Jude in the New Testament, Jude says that the ultimate ministry of Jesus in your life is to present you blameless before the presence of his glory, with great joy. Joy was the ultimate mission of Jesus, and joy is the ultimate reward in the kingdom of heaven; the joy that comes from being fully in the presence of God." In your presence, there is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Feel this right now into your body." In your presence, there is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Right now, you are in the presence of God. Let his joy flow through you like rivers of water, his spirit in you, welling up in you like Springs of water. Feel this everywhere in your body now, using your biblically- guided imagination. This Bible verse is telling you that infinite pleasures are in the hand of the infinite God. So using your imagination, take his hand. Take his hand now as your greatest possession. Take his hand now as your security, your calm confidence, your peace, your joy. And feel this into your body using your imagination." In your presence, there is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore." This verse is ultimately prophetic of the kingdom of God and a resurrected earth with resurrected bodies. But even now, consciously knowing that you are in God's presence and that God's very spirit is within you. Rivers of water flowing within you, through you. Springs of water welling up in you; God's presence, his fullness of joy. Consciously knowing that you are in God's presence and God's presence is in you will begin to replace your worry and fear and anxiety and self- protective reflexes with his joy and the security of his presence. Use your biblically- guided imagination to know and experience that he is at your right hand, and you are at his right hand in Christ. Knowing right now in this moment that the forever God is your God forever, and in his hand are pleasures forever more. Feel this in your body. Right now, in this moment, the forever God is your God forever. And he is in you and you are in him. And you are in his presence right now in this moment. He is the fullness of joy right now. In his hand is your greatest pleasure forever right now. So take hold of his hand right now. In your imagination, enjoy his presence right now and feel it into your body." In your presence, there is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore." What is it that you think you need right now that you don't really need? Let it go. It's just giving you anxiety and stress and anger. Let it go and take the better possession of God's hand, God's presence, God's joy. Remind yourself that you are in the presence of the forever God and his presence is the fullness of joy and pleasure forever more. Forever more. The forever God is forever more, more than whatever else you think you need to have to have joy." In your presence, there is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forever more." So take a deep breath and rest in this promise, in his presence. Imagine this. Feel this. Sense this reality into your body right now, like rivers of water flowing through you, and find rest in his presence, joy in his presence. The security of knowing that in his hand, you possess the greatest possession that is forever more than anything else you think you need." In your presence, there is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forever more." If you found this podcast helpful, please subscribe so you'll be sure to receive our next episode each Tuesday and Thursday morning. John 7:38-39 (NIV)

“‘Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”

Jesus said something similar when he was speaking to the woman by the well…

John 4:14 (NIV)

“…The water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Psalms 16:11 (ESV)

“In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Imagine the fullness of joy being in the presence of God‘s glory and God‘s beauty and God‘s perfect love for you. Seeing the one who created this entire universe with your own eyes. Resurrected eyes in a resurrected body. Imagine this reality and feel it now into your body.

The Bible’s bigger story is that Joy is the ultimate experience when Heaven returns to earth when Jesus comes back — we will have resurrected bodies of glory and power and true spirituality and immortality and we will live in the amazing presence of God forever.

Jesus said all of his teaching has Joy as its ultimate goal…

John 15:11 (ESV)

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”

That’s why in John 17, the night Jesus was arrested, when he is praying for his disciples and he is summing up the purpose of his entire life on earth he says…

John 17:13 (NIV)

“…So that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.”

In the final words of the epistle of Jude in the New Testament, Jude says that the ultimate ministry of Jesus in your life is…

Jude 1:24 (ESV)

“…To present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy.”

Joy is the ultimate reward in the kingdom of heaven. The joy that comes from being fully in the presence of God.

Infinite pleasures in the hand of the infinite God. So using your imagination, take his hand now as your greatest possession. Take his hand now as your security. Your calm confidence. Your peace. Your Joy. Feel this into your body.

Even now, consciously knowing that you are in God’s presence will begin to replace your worry and fear and anxiety and self-protective reflexes with his joy and the security of his presence. Use your biblically guided imagination to know and experience that he is at your right hand and you are at his right hand in Christ. Knowing right now in this moment that the forever God is your God forever and you are in his presence right now in this moment. He is the fullness of joy right now. In his hand is your greatest pleasure forever.

So take hold of his hand right now in your imagination. Enjoy his presence right now and feel it into your body.

What is it that you think you need right now that you don’t really need? Let it go. It’s just giving you anxiety and stress and anger. Let it go and take the better possession of God‘s hand. God‘s presence.

Remind yourself that you are in the presence of the forever God and his presence is fullness of joy and pleasure forevermore. Forevermore. The forever God is forever more! More than whatever else you think you need to have to have joy.

Imagine this. Feel this – sense this reality – into your body right now. And find rest in his presence. Joy in his presence. The security of knowing that in his hand you possess the greatest possession that is forever more than anything else you think you need.
